| Fiber/Fibers: |
This is a general term that refers to the fleece itself. These are the individual hairs in the fleece. |
| Skirting: |
This a processing of removing the outer edges of guard hair, as well as, vegetable matter, dung tags, bugs, sticks, and so forth. The general idea is to remove anything that you do not want in the final product when milling. |
| Guard Hair: |
These are axcillary or coarse type fibers that occur through the chest, leg, under belly, and so time the prime blanket. They usually lack crimp and are coarse to the touch. |
| Vegetable Matter: |
This is items in the fiber/fleece/blanket such hay, weeds, seeds, dirt, flowers and so on that is not part of the fiber. |
| Dung Tags: |
This would be considered beans, (poop) that is stuck to the fiber. They are usually hanging on, or clinging to the fiber. |
| Blanket: |
This is considered the prime of the main fleece from the animal which is the number one milling part of the fleece. This is referred to as prime, blanket, and 1st. |
| Histogram: |
This is a scientific reference tool for assessing the quality of the individuals animals fiber characteristics. It is measured by a lab in something called microns. See Yocom-Mccoll for more detail. |
